Last summer, in response to the challenge of the pandemic restrictions, MacNab developed and offered a 7-week online Vacation Bible Camp that we called “Cross Country Kids.” It was a collaborative effort between the children’s ministries at MacNab (Christina McCarthy) and The Crossing Church in St. John’s, Newfoundland (Kendalyn Mazur, who just happens to be Steve and Andrea’s daughter and is the Youth Pastor there – Christina and Kendalyn also knew one another and previously worked together). Combining our personnel, resources and different geographic locations enabled us to present a fast moving, multi-faceted summer program.
Each day (Monday to Friday) a video was aired on Social Media as well as in a Google Classroom. The daily video was approximately 15-20 minutes in length. There were no fees to participate and (because it was available on Facebook) anyone (anywhere with internet) could attend!
Each week featured a different theme including: Camping, Sports, Space, Pirates, Heroes, and Animals. The week’s theme was then developed through dramas, Bible lessons, memory verses, crafts, snacks, field trips, games, and guest speakers.
Cross Country Kids was recognized by publications by the denominations of both participating churches (“Presbyterian Connection” – MacNab and “Tidings” – The Crossing Church).
